I like the longer, more in-depth arcs! Simply because I get confused when there’s too many little arcs going on, especially since you only update twice a week so the strip connecting the arc could be a looong time ago.

The Internet has too many long-arc hard-to-follow webcomics. I like Pajama Forest because it’s easy to digest as a source of my recommended daily allowance of cute.

Recurring characters are fine though! I just don’t think PF is the sort of comic that should need a gigantic org chart to understand what’s going on.

I prefer short arcs, where I can enjoy each comic by itself without knowing the back story necessarily. I’ve tried to keep up with webcomics that use long story arcs before, but I never remember what happened before, or at least with everyone except QC, not sure why QC pulls it off.

I like the short arcs, maybe 3 episodes at the most. Set up an idea, continue it, and then wrap it up. It’ll keep it fresh, and I know we all love freshness!

I’m kind of partial to both. Some days I like a quick laugh but sometimes it is nice to stretch it out and learn more about the characters. It is not like every comic you do doesn’t have a *snicker* moment. :-D

I love the one-liners and the short arcs. Always amusing, keep ‘em coming. But I also think that every comic needs the longer arcs, to flesh out the characters. Maybe, kind of like you have been doing, you could post a lot of the short ones, but eeeeeevery so-often just post one longer comic in a main continuous story? I just think that life isn’t just short zany adventures and things change a little and that it would just help your comic have more of a feeling of being grounded in reality. It would be a subtle thing, but I like them and want you to keep doing them. :)

Well for what it’s worth I like em short too, I think you do your best work when you condense it. I LOVE how this one ties the two arcs together! Great idea!! Keep up the good work, I’m always impressed!

I like the combination of both. I think you have a good comedic sense that translates well into on shot stories, but you have also created an arc with August and Lola that I feel vested in and would like to know what happens. I think you have the ability to do both and should do what ever you want because I trust your ability to do that.

On another note you will probably get new readers easier with the one of strips because they are more readily shared with others (it’s a lot easier to email or show a one page story to someone new then to try and explain why “that the guy in the yellow” was already being chased by a bear before.), but that doesn’t mean you can’t flesh out a story that you feel can’t be told in one strip.

My advice: Do whatever is necessary to tell the stories that you want to tell. If you need to take a month to weave your tale then I’ll be here for it. If you think it’s getting long then put some one of stories to break it up.

Whatever you do, please keep it up. I always look forward to your strips.

As much as it probably DOESN’T help, I like both. A long arc, then a few “one-liners” before going into the next arc. A lot of the comics I read in the paper do this and I like the way it works out.

I like the longer arcs, personally, though the short ones can be nice on occasion (like you’ve been doing so far). Great work and I look forward to future strips ^V^

Also, I’m a fan of both long and short arcs. I think short arcs would be good to have between long arcs to break it up a bit, so it’s not long arc after long arc. Either way, you have a wonderful talent for being downright hilarious with your amazing one-liners, as well as being incredibly deep and insightful in both long arcs and short strips (for example, that beautiful piece with August and Grampa and the kite… *sniffle*).

Whatever you choose to do, I’ll be here among the readers, waiting eagerly for more ^_^

I’m a fan of the shorter ones (especially the semi-true tales). I’m not opposed to the long ones though, and I do appreciate the greater character depth and reader investment in the longer arcs. Anyway, like Michelle said, all of your comics have some sort snicker moment in them.

That being said, I love how excited Ed looks in the 2.5 circle frame :D

The crossover with the two arcs is very welcoming. I personally enjoy a couple comics or so on a single story driven arc and then a tangent with your “real life episodes”. :D

I definitely prefer longer more in depth arcs, but I believe it is safe to say I’d keep reading this comic no matter which path you decide to follow. It’s just much too entertaining to stop.

I personally like longer story arcs, but its nice to have little bits of unrelated humor at times too. keep up the good work

I like the longer arcs to keep a backbone to the story, but the short ones in between are good too. The ideal i think would be long story arcs with a short one in between, and maybe some semi-true tales, some of ed’s adventures, or dancing grampas thrown in there somewhere too.

Oh and also, I like how the small ones got tied into the story, even if they are their own little stories. Not alot of comics do that, like how Ed’s encounter with the bear came into the Lola story line.

I like long arcs, but I also like how you put together two arcs as one. There’s more room for character development, and now you can see how each character responds to one another :)

Long or short… um…… yes!

It just depends on what the story arc is about, some are better long or short. Some have to be long or short. I just care if it’s a GOOD story, like these ones.

I love, love, love the longer story arcs. They really do create more in-depth characters, and then we grow to love them more than we already do.

However…

The one where Ed broke his arm made me laugh hysterically. So I like both.

You have a knack for the one offs, your longer arcs don’t develop as well with your style of humor. That being said, I think you can tell a longer story of sorts through many short 2-3 parts arcs and one offs if you allow the characters to grow/change/evolve. Don’t just consider each new strip as a reset or “return to zero” point.

Also, the semi-true-tales, while amusing, are a distraction to the PJF world. If you were a 5-6 updates/week comic it would be okay. But with (understandably) fewer updates, you might want to consider just sticking to the one thing. For the sake of your readers.

But whatever you decide to do, keep up the good work.

You can’t stick to just the one-offs. If you have characters you have to develop them or they become boring place-holders. Jokes like your unicycle or the bear-fight are terrific, but what kept me interested is “who is this Lola? Will Gramps’s cat talk to him or be a soup? Will August stop being awkward long enough to tell Lola she’s pretty?”

Jokes can be great, but stories can captivate.

KEEP ‘EM BOTH! :-D Throw us some jokes in between stories, but once you’re story-telling, tell the story and try not to break it up too much.

i’m gonna go with a mix too. i think it would be good to take brakes in between arks to get an arc in. (arks=long , arcs=short)

Mix it up, turn it around, send out for pizza… Do what you want, its your dream. We just love watching the scenery go by… And you do good scenery…

I personally go for neither. In my opinion, you seem to be going for the same. PJ Forest is a healthy combination of the two. It’s got a little for everybody. That’s what I really like about it. I think you should keep going as you are… :)

I love longer arcs. It’s more like an actual story that I anticipate reading every week, rather than the smaller arcs that start and end quickly.

I will note that the “kinda true” comics are a welcome funny note. I would love to see the depth that a longer drawn out arc brings to the story and characters.

I am a huge fan of the stories. They keep me coming back day after day. BTW the strip is awesome! You have my undivided!!

Long-ish arcs… I don’t think that the whole comic should be one large arc necessarily… also I don’t like when there will be a “one off” comic in the middle of a long arc. Those are fine, but when we’re waiting for some sort of conclusion it gets a bit annoying. Those should be reserved to go in between any longer arcs

Small arcs bound together by other arcs=AWESOMENESS

I love a good story. And a good story is usually more than one strip.

But I love the funny little one-shots!

I don’t want either to disappear…Or even become less of a focus. I like what you’re doing now…A few one-shots, a few story arcs, then another one-shot, then an arc…it’s good balance. And I love it. <33

I like a little bit of both. Sometimes it’s really fun to follow a story, but others I really just want a nice, to the point, strip and punchline.

Whew! I finally read all the comments.

First of all I would like to say that I think Pajama Forest should NOT NOT HAVE ONE BIG OVERALL STORY LINE. You shouldn’t have to explain everything that’s happened so far just so a strip will make sense to someone new.

As for long vs. short arcs, I think we should have mostly medium arcs, like… the ice cream sammich arc, maybe, with a few one-shots and semi-true tales sprinkled in, and then the occasional really long arc.

But I’ll be fine with whatever, as long as you don’t change things drastically. And August should have a friend. Lola’s the only human character we have who’s not related.

Oh, and I liked it a lot better when Lola was a mystery. Now that she’s become the girl in the park, it’s kind of… anticlimactic. All of the questions (like “who is this girl?” “was she spying on him in the park?” and “has August really met her before in passing or something and he just forgot but it meant a lot to Lola and she’s been stalking him ever since or something?”) are just gone and don’t exist anymore because you decided to do some time traveling and change the past. Don’t you know how dangerous tampering with the time stream can be? YOU WILL DESTROY US ALL!!!!!! And what if we want to see the original versions of those edited ones? Can we any more?
